A message has been going viral across social media platforms. Many people are rapidly sharing it on WhatsApp, Facebook, and other platforms. The message claims that a dangerous gang is operating in different areas, kidnapping people, stealing kidneys, committing murders, and carrying out robberies.
According to the viral post, the gang allegedly uses a very unusual method.
The story says that a small child is sent to knock on the door of a house. The child hands over a note stating that he is lost and asking someone to drop him at a certain location. When a kind-hearted person tries to help the child and takes him to the given address, the rumor claims that the helper never returns home. According to the message, the person is either murdered, robbed, or their kidney is removed.
Because of this story, fear and panic have spread among many people online.
The post also carries a Punjab Police background image, which makes it appear as if the message is officially issued by the police. This has caused even more people to believe the message and share it further.
But the important question is:
Is this information true, or is it just another social media rumor?
To understand the reality behind this claim, we spoke with senior advocate Mian Abdul Mateen.
Understanding the Reality Behind Viral Fear Campaigns
Advocate Mateen explained that such viral rumors appear almost every year and often create unnecessary panic among the public.
He said that besides practicing law, he also runs educational institutions. In previous years, similar rumors spread that gangs from other provinces were kidnapping children. As a result, many parents became extremely afraid.
Schools, academies, and tuition centers even became empty because parents stopped sending their children due to fear created by social media posts.
To verify the situation, he personally visited a police station and asked about the number of kidnapping cases registered recently.
The police informed him that:
- Only three kidnapping cases were registered in the previous month.
- Two cases were registered in the current month.
When compared to the massive panic being spread online, the numbers did not match the scale of the rumors at all.
This clearly showed that the viral posts were greatly exaggerated or misleading.
How Viral Messages Spread Panic
Many of these viral messages follow the same pattern. They include dramatic stories, emotional language, and sometimes even official-looking graphics or police logos.
Often, the message ends with lines like:
“Share this message with 10 people to save lives.”
Because of fear, people forward such messages without verifying their authenticity.
This behavior helps rumors spread rapidly and creates unnecessary anxiety in society.
What Should People Do in Such Situations?
Instead of believing every viral message, people should use simple logic and common sense.
For example, if a lost child comes to someone’s house asking for help, the safest and most responsible action is not to take the child somewhere alone.
The correct step would be to take the child directly to the nearest police station. The police can check whether a missing person report has been filed and reunite the child with the family safely.
Final Thoughts
Social media has made it very easy for information to spread quickly, but unfortunately, rumors and misinformation spread just as fast.
Stories about kidnapping gangs and kidney theft often create unnecessary fear and disrupt normal life, especially for families and children.
Before sharing any such message, it is important to verify it from official sources such as the police or trusted news outlets.
Staying calm, thinking logically, and confirming facts can help prevent panic and protect society from the damage caused by viral misinformation.
