Illegal Detention and Abuse of Power: A Disturbing Case from Lahore

I uploaded a video regarding the case Amar vs. CCPO Lahore, in which we made CIA Kotwali a party to the petition. When we visited the CIA Kotwali office, we found the petitioner’s motorcycle parked outside. More concerning, however, was the fact that the petitioner’s brother had been implicated in a robbery case under Section 392 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The young man, whose name is Adil,  was present with me. He is an innocent child with no prior criminal record. According to the facts presented before us, he was picked up by the police solely because there was a financial dispute involving his brother, Amar. When the police failed to arrest Amar, they allegedly detained his brother instead.

Five Days of Illegal Detention

Adil was reportedly kept in illegal detention for five days. After those five days, an FIR was registered against him under Section 392 (robbery).

We immediately filed the necessary legal application, and he was discharged from the case due to lack of evidence.

Subsequently, we approached the court through a habeas corpus petition. The court initiated inquiry proceedings under Section 55-C and directed that an investigation be conducted by the CCPO Lahore to determine:

  • Why was this child detained?
  • Was he genuinely involved in robbery?
  • Or was he falsely implicated?

Re-Arrest and Further Harassment

Unfortunately, the matter did not end there.

The Sub-Inspector (SI) of CIA Kotwali, identified as Shahid, was approached by us in an attempt to coordinate and explain that the boy was innocent. Instead of resolving the issue lawfully, it is alleged that today the same officer again picked up Adil and seated him in a police vehicle, with threats of registering additional cases against him.

This is an alarming situation, not only for the victim’s family but for the integrity of the entire police department. When individuals are detained simply because a relative cannot be arrested, it raises serious concerns about abuse of authority.

The Role of the Legal System

While some officers may misuse their power, it is equally important to recognize that lawyers and courts continue to play a vital role in protecting citizens’ rights.

Through legal action, we secured Adil’s discharge and initiated judicial inquiry. The case will not stop here. We will continue pursuing all lawful remedies to ensure accountability.

The message is clear: no citizen should face harassment, illegal detention, or false cases due to personal disputes or pressure tactics.

A Personal Note

I have advised Adil to continue his education and focus on building a respectable future. Difficult times should not define a young person’s life. With determination, legal support, and faith, justice can prevail.

Conclusion

This case highlights a broader issue: the misuse of police powers and the importance of judicial oversight. Illegal detention and fabricated cases undermine public trust in law enforcement.

We remain committed to pursuing justice through proper legal channels. If you support accountability, rule of law, and protection of innocent citizens, your voice matters.

Thank you to everyone who continues to stand with us and support our legal efforts.
